Storybook Breakfast's Impact on Early Literacy

Early literacy is an important steppingstone in a child’s development because if children “can read it, they can be it,” according to Trisha Murphy, the development director for Middle Tennessee State University’s College of Education.

Murphy understands why supporting programs like the Imagination Library is key from both her professional and personal life. She and her son, James, have participated in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and the Storybook Breakfast events for many years.

A New Day, A New United Way

On July 1, your local United Way embarks on a new chapter, now known as the United Way of South Central Tennessee. This change signifies the culmination of a merger between the United Way of Bedford County and the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties in spring 2023. Reflecting our expanded service area, our new name embraces Bedford, Cannon, Lincoln, and Rutherford counties, where we are dedicated to advancing opportunities in education, health, and financial stability.
