United Way Partner Volunteer Opportunities

Facility/Vehicle Maintenance
Dates: M-F. Times are flexible.
Additional Information: Projects could include building maintenance, assembling furniture, painting, cleaning. Ensure vehicles (at A.R.C. only) are taken for oil changes/routine maintenance.
Location: American Red Cross, Kymari House, Special Kids (background check required), Salvation Army

Sexual Assault Advocate:
Dates: Ongoing. Minimum 6-month time commitment required.
Additional Information: Background check required. Training required and offered 3 times per year.
Location: Domestic Violence Shelter

Nutrition Support
Dates: Ongoing. Flexible hours.
Additional Information: Assist with cooking meals. Sort donated food items. Manage inventory.
Location: Domestic Violence Shelter (background check required), Salvation Army

General Organization/Cleaning/Sorting
Dates: 2nd Saturday of every month
Additional Information: Tasks will vary.
Location: Domestic Violence Shelter

Special Event Support
Dates: Event days in April (Volunteer Appreciation Day), November (Thanksgiving festivities), and December (Christmas party)
Additional Information: Tasks will vary.
Location: St. Claire Senior Center

Meals on Wheels
Dates: M, W, Th
Additional Information: Assist with meal preparation and packing.
Location: Patterson Park with St. Claire Senior Center

Bell Ringer for Red Kettle Campaign
Dates: November 18th – December 24th. M-Sun. 2 shifts (10am-3pm, 3pm-8pm)
Additional Information: 24 locations throughout Rutherford County
Location: Varies. Salvation Army

Meal Preparation
Dates: Daily (3:30pm-6:30pm)
Additional Information: Prepare and cook meals with supervisor
Location: Salvation Army

Clothing/Item Sorting
Dates: M-Sat. (10am-2pm)
Additional Information: Sort donated items and help within Family Store
Location: Salvation Army Family Store

Special Event Support
Dates: September (Banquet), April (5K Race), May (Golf Tournament)
Additional Information: Race can accommodate large groups of volunteers
Location: Special Kids

Summer Camp Volunteer
Dates: Daily during months of June and July (9am-3:30pm). Flexible hours/shifts. 7 week time frame.
Additional Information: Tasks will vary.
Location: North Blvd. Church of Christ (for Special Kids)

Special Volunteer Advocate
Dates: Times may vary. One year commitment required.
Additional Information: 30 hours formal training. Full background check. Report on best interest of abused, neglected, or dependent child(ren) who are brought before the Juvenile Court.
Location: CASA of Rutherford County

Girl Scout Volunteer Advocate
Dates: August and September. 1-3 afternoons/evenings per week (usually M, T, or Th).
Additional Information: No experience necessary. Training provided. Speak to students and parents at various schools about Girl Scouts of America. May conduct 10-minute presentation.

Groundskeeper/Woodwork
Dates: Times vary based on project needs.
Additional Information: Work would take place at Girl Scouts of America’s Camp Piedmont site (in the Readyville, TN area). Projects could include preparing grounds for summer camp, helping maintain trails, woodwork, tree removal, etc.

Special Events Volunteer
Dates: Mall lock-in takes place in fall. Other event times vary.
Additional Information: Girl Scouts of America hosts a mall lock-in for all Girl Scout participants. Volunteers would help supervise their assigned group, play games, and assist with crafts/activities. Other events may include putting together displays, registration assistance, and helping with activities.

Dentist or Dental Hygienist
Dates: Ongoing. Flexible hours. Prefer at least 1-2 days per week.
Additional Information: Serve patients with dental needs.
Location: Interfaith Dental

General Volunteer/Office Assistant
Dates: Ongoing. Flexible hours.
Additional Information: Volunteer can choose solid schedule or various times to assist with front office and reception duties.

Event Coordinator/Dental Advocate
Dates: Events take place in February and September.
Additional Information: Volunteer would help coordinate events (such as Soups for Smiles and Stories Behind Smiles), advocate for dental health, and make connections within the community for sponsors, donors, and additional volunteers.
Location: Interfaith Dental

Special Events Coordinator
Dates: Events are year-round, sometimes monthly.
Additional Information: Volunteer would plan in-house events for children, off-campus field trips, and employee/volunteer appreciation events. Volunteer would also assist with creating classes and a class schedule to include art, cooking, music, drama, and other skill focused activities.
Location: Boys and Girls Club of Murfreesboro

Videographer/Photographer
Dates: Dates and times will vary depending on projects.
Additional Information: Videographer and/or photographer needed for various projects throughout the year. Must have own equipment and editing software as necessary. Work would be provided through volunteering or in-kind gift. This is not a paid opportunity.
Location: United Way
 

Toy Cleaning/Organization
Dates: M-F, times are flexible
Additional Information: Help clean and organize toys for children.
Location: Kymari House

Youth Mentor
Dates: Daily
Additional Information: Serve as a mentor for children ages 5-18. Assist with homework, activities, games, and provide leadership direction. Background check required.
Location: Boys and Girls Club Murfreesboro or Smyrna

One-on-One Youth Mentor
Dates: Year-long commitment. At least 45 minutes – 1 hour spent with the child weekly.
Additional Information: Application, interview, and background check required. Training provided. Meetings with child may be on-site at school or off-site depending on which program you apply.
Location: Big Brothers/Big Sisters

Disaster Assessment Volunteer
Dates: On-going opportunities
Additional Information: Training provided to assist with disaster relief, such as flooding, tornados, fire, or other disaster situations. Service can be as an individual or with a team at a shelter site or deployment opportunities are available. Background check required.
Location: American Red Cross

Health Services Volunteer
Dates: Daily opportunities
Additional Information: Training provided to assist with blood services, CPR, and first aide.
Location: American Red Cross

Receptionist/Administrative Assistant
Dates: On-going opportunity
Additional Information: Volunteers can assist on a daily basis. No set schedule required, but helpful. Some administrative duties can be handled remotely.
Location: American Red Cross
