United Way Named Salvation Army’s Beyond the Bells 2018 Community Spotlight Partner

United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties was recognized as the Community Spotlight Partner at the third annual Beyond the Bells luncheon hosted by The Salvation Army.

Thanks to funding assistance from the United Way, The Salvation Army is able to offer Life Recovery Program and Third Shift Shelter Program.

“Partnering with organizations such as The Salvation Army to support those in our community who need a helping hand is the core of United Way’s impact model,” said Meagan Flippin, President and CEO. “We look forward to creating lasting and sustainable change with The Salvation Army in the years to come.”

The Life Recovery Program is a year-round back-to-work homeless shelter for single men and families. At any time, the shelter can house 34 individuals including four family rooms and 18 dorm-style men’s beds. During their stay, at the shelter families and individuals are given the tools and support needed to rebuild their lives to become productive citizens once more.

The Third Shift Shelter Program meets the needs of the several working individuals who are employed during the third shift who have nowhere to sleep during the day. During their stay, they meet one-on-one with the Director of Social Service weekly to create an individual case plan to achieve their goals and re-establish themselves.

The award was accepted by United Way President and CEO, Meagan Flippin; at Embassy Suites on May 9, 2018.
