Introduction to the World of Grant Funding
Step 1: Finding Them
Step 2: The Proposal Process
Target: Leaders, Fundraisers, and Development staff
Samantha E. Cantrell, PhD
Proposal Development Specialist
Office of Research Services
Middle Tennessee State University
Do you have “find a grant” listed on your To Do list but don’t know where to get started? Have you recruited a new board member to help with resource development but still need to provide direction for him/her? As an introduction to the process of applying for grants, this session will provide an overview of finding and applying for grant funding.
Cantrell, who is a proposal development specialist in the Office of Research Services at MTSU, is charged with helping the university’s faculty and staff to secure funding to further MTSU’s mission. She will share with participants her experience and best practices for each step in the process, including the key components of a strong proposal.
This session is intended as an introduction to grant funding: a general overview of the process from start to finish. The goal is to strike “find a grant” item from your To Do List and add instead: “submit application for XYZ grant by ___.”
